A possible <em>Sphingomonas paucimobilis</em> endocarditis in a haemodialysed patient: A case report

Sphingomonas paucimobilis is widely distributed in the environment and causes occasional human infections, most often immunocompromised individuals. Reports of unusual invasive severe infections include septic arthritis, osteomyelitis, respiratory tract patients with cystic fibrosis necrotising soft tissue infections. There are only few reported cases endocarditis international literature. no published Sri Lanka.We describe a possible case endocarditis. A 58 year old male patient presented reduced responsiveness following haemodialysis. All three blood cultures taken on admission were positive for paucimobilis. His echocardiography could not exclude He was treated appropriate antibiotics but unfortunately expired due to shock aspiration pneumonia. This demonstrates that organisms low virulence cause end stage renal disease. It also indicates such relatively asymptomatic or have symptoms compared normal immunity.
